In the depth of the Night-Thereafter
Echoes the sound of a thousand voices
As if caught between cry and laughter
And seemingly had no choices,
Save to remember little things
Like the eyes of a snail going back in
When children to quench their chagrin
Couldn’t resist so a little sin
“I saw them going back in”
“Even the eyes of a snail”
“Even that has been”
“It was part of the Tale”
What we’ll never see again
As much as once we beheld
And as long eyes will meld
Existence will never be vain
